I need help with ideas for migraines I have been getting almost every day since I became pregnant 14 weeks ago… I have gotten migraines for over 15 years but never this strong or often. My ob has prescribed Tylenol with codeine, which does nothing. I normally take Fioricet, which my ob feels is too much of a risk. I have still taken it occasionally because I can’t handle the pain… it sometimes helps and sometimes doesn’t… I am seeing a neurologist in 2 weeks, but that’s still a long time to be in this much pain. Does anyone have ideas that I can discuss with my doctor? I know there are risks with many narcotics, etc. during pregnancy, but my life matters, too- I have a 12 month old daughter and a husband that need me, too. I feel I’ve been neglecting them big time because of this, not to mention being in pain every day is miserable enough to begin with. I don’t care if it’s Smarties, if it helps take my pain away, I will try anything, please help!
I use cold patches. There is no medicine in them so they are perfectly safe when pregnant. They stick to your forehead and last a good amount of time. You can also take an ice cold wet washcloth and place it where the back of your head meets your neck.
Having my hands or feet rubbed is also helpful to me.
I have heard people speak highly of acupuncture, but I would strongly suggest getting a referal from your OB before trying that.
I know caffine is a taboo when pregant, but a little won’t hurt and it might help the tylenol work better. I drink a glass of Coke with my medicine. When you are further along it might be a problem because it will make the baby jumpy.
Make sure you keep an eye on your blood pressure to be safe.
