I am pregnant 17 weeks and have really bad depression/anxiety and terrible migraines all the time. My doctor?
prescribed 40 mgs prozac and 50 mg fioricets as needed for bad migraines. Do you think this is safe? I wouldn’t take it if my condition wasn’t so severe. Im really concerned about the fioricet though. It was just prescribed today. My headaches will last for days though sometimes and i’ve tried tylenol. Anyone had experience with these medications while pregnant?
Chosen Answer:
While certain meds like Prozac are generally contraindicated during pregnancy, your doctor has to decide on whether the benefits it will provide you with outweigh any potential risks to the baby. Obviously your doctor believes you need the medication and will benefit, and that the risks to baby are minimal.
Have a little faith in your doctors. They wouldn’t prescribe highly dangerous drugs to you. Many drugs are listed as potentially harmful to a baby, but generally speaking risks are often very minimal.
Good luck!

I would be very concerned about taking prozac during pregnancy. I don’t know about the fiorocet. You shouldn’t take any meds when pregnant but I understand your dilema. It is safe to take a couple of Tylenol now and then. I would go see a Naturapath or enrol in a relaxation class. Yoga? Make an appointment to see a psychotherapist to deal with your depression. It’s worth it!!!!

If your depression is overwhelming the benefits of taking Prozac would probably outweigh the possible risks to the baby.
I’m sure your doctor did not make these decisions lightly. All of these drugs are well-researched and are prescribed only when truly needed.
I hope you will be feeling better and stronger as your pregnancy progresses and that perhaps you can begin to cut back on the dosages.
Have you tried prayer for your depression and anxiety? Ask God every day to help you.
